In today’s digital era, where data holds immense importance, grasping its full value across the lifecycle of buildings and structures is crucial. Traditionally, the Architecture, Engineering, Construction and Operations (AECO) industry has focused on initial costs and construction efficiency, but a significant shift is occurring towards Whole Life Value (WLV) of data.

WLV of Data encompasses a structure’s entire lifespan, providing deep insights for stakeholders from start to finish. This approach enhances decision-making, boosts asset performance, and contributes towards sustainability.

Yet, embracing WLV data encounters several challenges such as fragmented workflows, data silos, privacy concerns, ambiguity around roles and responsibilities etc. Cultural shifts and upskilling are necessary to fully utilize data-driven insights. Technologies such as Digital Twins offer a peek into a data-driven future for AECO. They can leverage the data created/collected during Design and Construction phases and extends its use during operations, maintaining the digital thread and promoting the concept of WLV of data By leveraging WLV data and transformative technologies like Digital Twins, we can design sustainable, resilient structures that contribute to a flourishing built environment.
