Nima (formerly the UK BIM Alliance, established in 2016) is a not-for-profit virtual organisation. A volunteer-led group, it promotes information management best practices, helping to support digital transformation across the built and managed environment. Nima incorporates bSUKI, the UK and Ireland chapter of buildingSMART International, and – with the British Standards Institution – maintains the UK BIM Framework, the overarching approach to implementing BIM in the UK.
Nima activities are managed through various volunteer groupings, including:
- nima’s chair and vice-chairs – individuals who volunteer considerable time and expertise to help manage nima activities
- ambassadors – individuals who promote the UK BIM Framework and the nima resources that support and enable it
- communities – groups of volunteers active in particular industry disciplines or in particular regions
- affiliates – professional institutions and industry trade associations aligned with nima’s approach to information management
