IM4Power seeking electricity industry experts

IM4Power, the information management network for the UK electricity transmission and distribution sector established in late 2024, is looking for power industry experts to lead its activities. It is aiming to accelerate the deployment of the latest information management processes and digital tools in the race to Clean Power 2030.

IM4Power’s chair, Scott Pritchard (lead digital information manager at SSEN Transmission; April 2025 news), says “Digitalisation is not something that happens in a box away from the normal day-to-day; it needs to be an integral part of the way we deliver projects.”

At Utility Week Live earlier this year, the group identified several key areas to explore, including :

  • digital skills
  • 3D objects
  • model component library
  • ISO 19650 adoption
  • structured and accessible data, and
  • 4D (time-based modelling).

Call for volunteers

“We’re now putting a call out to industry for applications to join these workstreams,” Pritchard said. “We are looking for people to chair each one, with representatives from the three transmission owners, but also contractors and consultants. Each workstream should be representative of the industry.” He hopes that by the time of the next Infrastructure Delivery Forum (on 8 October 2025, in Manchester), each group will have a chair.

Looking further ahead, Pritchard says:

“Once we reach the conclusion of those work packages, we need to develop a mechanism within the three TOs [transmission operators: Scottish Power Energy Networks, National Grid and SSEN Transmission] to get the work embedded in our business. It should influence project delivery and asset management. We want to make a difference and help accelerate delivery of our Clean Power 2030 projects – not for IM4Power to end up a talking shop.”

Pritchard adds that from his perspective, IM4Power’s activities are “all about acceleration”.

“We can’t deliver Clean Power 2030 doing things the way we have done historically. If we don’t go down the digitalisation route, we won’t hit the target. Digitalisation will accelerate decision-making from planning applications through to design and construction and operation and asset management. It will enable us to use technology in the field and manage assets like a modern-day asset management department should.”

If you would like to run an IM4Power working group, or get involved in the project as a subject matter expert, please contact Scott: scott.pritchard@sse.com or submit this form. The next Infrastructure Delivery Forum is taking place in Manchester on 8 October 2025. Register for your place.
