Case Study – Thames Tideway East
The Thames Tideway Tunnel is a major infrastructure London project and is designed to reduce the flow of untreated sewage to the River Thames. It is a £4.2 billion project that will resolve the problem of overflows from London’s Victorian sewers and also meet European environmental standards. It is the largest infrastructure project undertaken by the water industry to date. This case study focusses on the Thames Tideway East project which includes tunnel works 70m beneath central London all located in confined areas in full sight of the public. The project is currently at the construction stage and the Study describes the implementation of a model-based delivery for the Thames Tideway Tunnel eastern section, the benefits realised, and the challenges encountered and overcome so far.
